The Lasso – Mexico

Tying the knot is a well-known figure of speech when it comes to marriage, but in Mexico, they take it literally.

It is also referred to as a Unity Lace and represents the joining of the two lives together.

The “rope” can be made from different types of materials. Form a basic ribbon to crystals or beads and other use orange blossoms that symbolize fertility and happiness. In some families, a double rosary lasso is given to the couple as a gift by the parents of the bride or groom. The lasso is first placed on the groom’s shoulders and then on bride’s and they wear it till the end of the ceremony and then gifted to the bride for safekeeping.
