9. K2 Mountain, Pakistan & China
K2 has a unique place in the high-altitude mountaineering. Although is the 239 meters lower than Mount Everest, it has long been known as a mountain top. By comparison, Everest is by the end of 2010 climbed 5,104 times, while K2 was “won” only 302 times. After the first attempts of British and Italian climbing teams at the beginning of 1900, American teams tried also in 1938, 1939 and 1953. Over time, it was created the myth that the K2 has a personal antipathy toward mountaineers, and that they are deliberately greeted with bad weather. Finally, in 1954, the big Italian expedition climbed this mountain. The height of the K2 is 8,611 m.
